Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
I have 30 plus years of practice as a physical therapist. Hart Physical Therapy, in the Fruitville area, has been providing holistic physical therapy since 2006 in Sarasota.
What is your primary product or service?
We relieve pain using Holistic Physical Therapy to treat the root causes of pain caused by arthritis, including back and neck pain, rotator cuff, stenosis, sciatica, restless leg syndrome, osteoporosis and fibromyalgia. In addition, we are specialized in treating neurological conditions including Parkinson's Disease, stroke MS and CP.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
I was finishing a degree in music and enjoyed the arts and movement when I realized that I wanted a career in the healthcare field. I was use to doing bodywork and using my hands to play flute and piano and chose to use my hands further and be trained as a physical therapist.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
By the very nature of my background, I developed a holistic, multiple systems approach to treating the root causes of pain. Aging, itself is thought of as a natural process in life and not a cause for pain. Rather, I believed the design of the body to be one of health and well-being with the capacity to heal itself. Furthermore, I saw patients as being part of the healing process and interacting with my patients while treating them was part of my own personal growth. In the process, I developed The Hart Technique, a unique, collaborative treatment method using a whole body approach. This method seeks to evaluate and treat root causes of pain and movement dysfunction, rather than managing symptoms. I have developed a specific home exercise program that seeks to relieve body pain and improve health in the entire body. This is different than traditional physical therapy that focuses on the pathology of the diagnosis and treats the part rather than the whole body. In traditional medicine people are given more labels for their symptoms and very few tools with the capacity to bring about a real change in their condition.
